What is the HSGL? A gaming league created to allow interested students to enjoy gaming in a competitive, school spirited and socially interactive way! We are focused on providing an organized, team based, inter-school competition, where the students will represent their school against other schools in their area. The league will consist of three separate divisions: Smash, Halo and Madden. Each division will have four seeds per school to allow for a full 12 man team per school. As a fully developed league, we'll have scheduled games over 10 weeks, between up to eight different schools. Our first season of the HSGL should allow over 100 students throughout Westchester to represent their schools in inter-school competitive gaming!
Why should I join? To enjoy team based competitive gaming, where your school consistently competes against other schools in your area for bragging rights and top ranking! While you're at it, join to enjoy a social gaming atmosphere and meet new people, from your school and from other schools!
What do I win if I'm the Champion? There are three different types of winners: Most Valuable Players, Most Valuable Team and Champions. Most Valuable Players, or MVPs, are determined by the HSGL Point System at the end of the season. The players with the most points in each division are the Divisional MVPs. The Most Valuable Team, or MVT, is similarly determined by the HSGL Point System at the end of the season. The Team (read School) with the highest total of points amongst all three divisions is deemed the MVT! At the end of the season, the playoffs and championship for each division determines the Divisional Champions. We'll have trophies, medals and sponsored awards for all winners.
What do I need to do to join? You can either register at the Gaming Theater - the facility where the league will be hosted - or at the bottom of this page. As we require at least 12 participants from each school, it is recommended that the team signs up together to minimize confusion.
What games are we going to be competing in? For now, we've chosen three games: Halo 2, Madden 07 and Super Smash Brothers Melee. For the first season, every division will be 1v1. We will expand to team based divisions in the next season (Fall Season 2007)!
How long will the HSGL season last? Each season will last 10 - 12 weeks: 10 weeks for season play, with up to two additional weeks for the playoffs and championship!
When is the first season? The first season will be held during the Spring of 2007!!!!
When is the next season? After the Spring Season '07, we are planning on having a Fall Season 2007. Our hope is to expand the HSGL, throughout the region and farther, so that we can have a more competitive league. Our first season will be for Westchester Schools only. Depending on the success of that season, we will expand it to NYC and allow for more schools in the Westchester region for the next season (Fall Season ' 07).
Do I need to get my parents' signature for participating in the HSGL? Yes. Similar to any extracurricular activity, you will need to get a parent's signature to participate in the HSGL. If you are 18 or older, then it isn't required. This will be needed when the league starts, not at this time. The file can be downloaded here.
Is there a fee involved with joining the HSGL? There is a one time league management fee, which is $30 per person. This will be required prior to playing your first match. This fee will cover registration, all league games, playoffs and championship participation. Also included in this fee: hosting championship games at another larger venues, any banners, website and press coverage for players, teams and schools, medals or awards given and any other pertinent costs involved with running a county wide league.
Who should I get in contact with regarding any questions? You can contact the league organizer, MJ. MJ has been running various tournaments and other leagues via The Gaming Theater for the last two years. He can be contacted at info@thehsgl.com
